The eroded walls that once protected the ancient city of Goachang
There is not much at all left of the ancient city of Goachang. The Flaming Mountains are in the background.
The city of Gaochang was not much to look at, of all the ancient Silk Road remnants we had visited, it was in the most disrepair. What was fascinating was this mummy from one of it’s many graveyards. The Turpan Depression is so arid that human bodies in their tombs completely desiccate preserving them as if they were just laid to rest. The estimated age of this mummy is 4,000 years old.
