The fort in Tashkurgan dates back over 1,400 years. Tashkurgan was the midpoint of the 4,000 mile silk road between Xian in China and the eastern coastal ports of the Mediterranean Sea. No traders actually traveled the entire route. Goods were traded between various caravans and eventually made the entire journey increasing in value with every trade along the way.
