We found a route through the icebergs to Primavera Base, an Argentinean research base set in the midst of a large Gentoo penguin colony. The penguins were always fun to watch, yet here we were hoping to find a Leopard seal whose diet staple was penguin.
The water close to shore in Cierva Cove bustled with activity as the penguins came and went. This group is porpoising it's way back to shore.
The water around the zodiac literally boiled with Gentoo penguin activity close enough we could of reached out and touched them. Perhaps they felt safe enough with a zodiac nearby that a leopard seal would not venture close.
