There was a small Gentoo penguin colony on Brown Bluff along with the Adelie's. I have no idea what this guy was up to but he strutted up and down the beach for a while displaying his prize before dropping it and going for a swim.
An Adelie penguin covered in penguin poo overlooking the rookery. They mainly eat krill, a small shrimp like crustacean that stains everything pink. This one has obviously just spent some time on the nest and is ready to go to sea to hunt. Penguin colonies have been discovered from space and the size of colonies estimated by the size of the stain on the ice. The odor emitted from a large colony is something not easily forgotten.
