A hungry chick getting one of it's many meals during the day.
It appeared that every nest in the colony had a pair of recent if not newly hatched chicks. Chinstrap penguins generally have two chicks each summer rearing both to maturity. Therefore they are able to maintain their population of about 7 million making them the largest population of all the penguins.
This Chinstrap is keeping it’s chicks tightly tucked close for protection against the Snowy Sheathbill making the rounds through the colony looking for the wayward chick or unprotected egg to prey upon.
